OUR DEPARTMENT

 

The Kerala State Law Department is one among the Several Secretariat Departments. It is a distinct and independent unit with in the State Secretariat. The business of Law Department is transacted as provided in the Kerala Law Department Manual. This department is generally guided by the procedure laid down in the Kerala Secretariat Office Manual for its functioning, but taking into account the special nature of the work int the department sometimes procedure marginally different is adopted in respect of certain items of work in department.

Keeps the standard and quality of the legal framework in the state for the effective implementation of Governmental policies by conforming to the provisions of the Constitution of India and other Laws in force in our country.

Strive to render high quality Legal Services ( Legislative as well as Advisory) to our clients particularly to the Secretariat departments for their proper and effective functioning and ensure effective services to the public through its line agencies.

  • Installed an On line Monitoring system in the office of the District Government Pleader, Thiruvananthapuram for effective monitoring of Govt. cases.
  • Installation of an IPR Information system and Information retrieval Mechanism is in the anvil.

Appointment of Marriage Registrars under the Cochin Christian Civil Marriage Act, 1095. Secretariat departments can obtain legal opinion on personal laws as inter-departmental references.

 

The Sub Registrars who are Christians are appointed as Marriage Registrar for Thrissur District, Palakkad District (expect the estwhile Malabar area) Ernakulam District (except the erstwhile Travancore area and Malabar area.)
