The administration of the office of the Advocate
General is attended to by the Law Department through the Law (Inspection
Wing) Section.
The Advocate General for each State is appointed
by the Governor under Article
165(1) of the Constitution of India. The constitutional duties
assigned to the post are to give advice to the Government of the
State upon such legal matters, and to perform such other legal matters,
and to perform such other duties of a legal character, as may from
time to time by referred or assigned to him be the Governor, and
to discharge the functions conferred on him by or under the Constitution
or by any other law for the time being in force.
In exercise of the powers conferred by clause
(2) and (3) of Article
165 of the Constitution, the Governor had framed the Rules Regulating
the Conditions of Service, Duties, Remuneration, etc. of the Advocate
General and Additional Advocate General, Kerala*, issued in Notification
No.LD(A) 1-3006/56/Law, dated 1st November, 1956.
